Allow me to be frank:  I NEVER heard of a skin care company that tailored to sweaty individuals like me who love working out.  I didn't know whether I should jump up for joy or to be exceptionally skeptical.

A few weeks ago, I tried out a trio kit from Fre Skin Care and I can honestly say that I'm shocked by the results.  Before I give you the details, let me give you a bit of background about the company.

What is Fre Skincare?

Here's the scoop directly from Fre Skincare's Website:

Formulated for skin that sweats.

123FRÉ is a comprehensive 3-step routine that creates a clear complexion and a healthy glow. It combats exercise and sweat-induced skin damage: breakouts, dehydration and aging.

Step 1: Protect Me (2 fl. oz / 60 ml) is an ultra-light SPF30 moisturizer. It is water-resistant, won't clog pores and won't sting eyes when you sweat. No white cast.

Step 2: Purify Me (5.07 fl. oz / 150 ml) is a hydrating facial cleanser that prevents and treats breakouts, de-stresses and re-balances skin pH, post-workout.

Step 3: Revive Me (2 fl. oz / 60 ml) is a specialized anti-aging serum that boosts fatigued skin with vitamins and minerals, regenerates collagen and skin elasticity, creating an energized healthy glow.
All products are hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested and non-comedogenic.

The Review

Packaging

Fre Skin Care bottles are durable enough to travel and not oversized.  When shipped, it came in a box loaded with two bags:  A sliding zip translucent bag and a small drawstring "gym bag."

Personal Background & Skin Type

Unfortunately, I have been 'gifted' with endometriosis and a few health issues that sometimes disrupts everything from my menstrual cycle to causing breakouts and even hair growths.  Prior to using Fre Skincare, my skin care regimen and fitness routine consisted of:
  • Simply opening my pores with exceptionally hot water and sealing it with a clean, cold cloth
  • After gym workouts, I would try to shower or wash my face within 15 minutes, including but not limited to disposable wipes, makeup facial removers or the worst case scenario, waiting until I could make it to a nearby gym or home to cleanse myself thoroughly
  • Harsh chemicals dry out my skin and make other areas appear red, puffy, inflamed or excessively shiny
  • When I am not properly hydrated, my skin flakes atrociously and creates a buildup of yeast near my scalp and nose
  • I am 32 years old and I live in a fairly polluted city (NYC)
  • I have combination skin--exceptionally dry around the nose, shiny in the T-Zone and patchy at times on my cheeks
  • It is easy for me to sweat excessively
  • Fitness Regimen:  During peak training, I attend the gym around 4 - 5 days a week, averaging 45 minutes of calisthenics work and 30 minutes of strength training.  In addition, I am an ultra marathoner with an average mileage of 45 - 50 miles per week in an ever changing NYC weather.  When I get the chance, I love to ride my bike close to 5 hours a week and vinyasa style yoga 3 hours a week.  My new regimen - thanks to triathlon training - includes swimming/swim aerobics 3 -4 days a week, averaging around 45 minutes per session.
  • Brands that I used before:  Neutrogena, Clearisil and Clinique.  Clinique was the lightest formula that ever used and even that made my nose red after a while.

My Experience and the Product Breakdown

Step One:  Protect Me

As a woman of color, sometimes I neglect using SPF on my skin and that's a huge no-no for someone who participates in outdoor sports as much as I do and have a handful of health issues.

Although it's not the lightest formula that I ever used on my face, it truly does the job.  Fre Skincare did an excellent job of making sure that it's water resistant and I was amazed that it held up to my insane fitness regimen.  When I went for a ten mile run, not only did my skin still feel soft but I could smell the citrus mimicking fragrance while the rest of my body was begging for a necessary shower.

It’s still a very lightweight formula but just not as  I do like that it is water resistant and can uphold even my toughest workouts. It specializes in fighting oxidation, free radicals and preventing dark spots. I really like that it will protect my skin from UVA, UVB, and IRA rays and air pollution since I do like to run outside and of course my weekend beach trips.

Step Two:  Purify Me

One Sunday, I went for a long run for a few hours, did a gym session and went for a swim and figured this would be the ultimate test.  I love the way that my skin instantly felt great while using it.  Similar to the Protect Me formula, it left my skin refreshed, smoother and light.  I didn't experience any redness that I'm always scared about from other companies and my skin had a noticeable glow after a week of using it twice a day --when I woke up and after an intense workout.

Step Three:  Revive Me

This Argan stem cell serum is loaded with a basket full of goodies.  Seriously guys:  You don't need to use a lot of this on your face.  A little goes a LONG WAY and it's exceptionally effective.  A quick bit that I might add is that it's loaded with vitamins and helps regenerate cells and collagen--this is something that people tend to worry about as they get older.

Overall Feelings

I am wholeheartedly surprised how much my skin feels different over a few weeks. The patches that typically occupy areas on my face are almost gone and the nose buildup is practically non existent.  Almost into week three and I haven't had any adverse reactions nor flare ups from the products.  I truly love that I don't feel like my face is loaded with a bunch of products and it was light enough to use as a base when I put on makeup.

Here's some things that I truly dig about them:  Their skin care line is completely Vegan friendly, cruelty free and super ideal for a minimalist person like me who don't have as much time to apply to my skin care routine.  I must note that this isn't an acne treatment product and should probably look into other products if this is what you're looking for.  As previously mentioned, Fre Skincare uses Argan stem cells as well as Argan oil leaf extract.  In addition, an Argan Tree of Life is planted for every set sold to empower women’s who harvest Argan in Morocco and fight deforestation--now that's amazing!

A full facelift addresses significant sagging, while a mini facelift focuses on the lower face with a quicker recovery.
